Temperature is one of those things you have to keep an eye on all the time. In our plant, boilers, furnaces, and turbines all depend on accurate readings. If a sensor fails or drifts, it can cause equipment damage or slow production.
We’ve been using the IC695ALG312, also known as the General Electric Isolated Thermocouple Input module, to handle thermocouple readings. It fits into the PACSystems RX3i rack easily and doesn’t require extra adapters or complicated wiring.
The IC695ALG312 has multiple thermocouple input channels in one module. Each channel is isolated from the others and from the backplane. That makes a big difference in plants like ours, where motors and drives create electrical noise. Without isolation, readings can jump around and cause false alarms.
The module supports J, K, T, E, R, S, B, and N thermocouples. We use Type K for most heating systems and Type R in high-temperature furnaces. One module can handle all of them, which keeps the setup simple.
Another feature we rely on is built-in cold junction compensation. It automatically adjusts readings for the reference temperature. That cuts down on wiring errors and makes installation faster.
Diagnostics are useful too. If a thermocouple wire opens or breaks, the module tells you which channel has the problem. On the plant floor, that saves a lot of time compared to checking each sensor manually.
