AF 100: Advant Fieldbus 100 is the communications bus between the I/O stations and the Advant Controllers. (FCI to CI52x)
DTM: Device Type Manager is a standardized software for configuration, diagnostics, HART data communication based on the FDT standard.
FCI: The Fieldbus Communication Interface (FCI) device contains the interface to the fieldbus (e.g. AF 100), ModuleBus interface and power regulators. The FCI module can manage 24 I/O devices (up to 12 directly and to the others in 1 to 7 I/O clusters).
Base cluster: Consists of single or red. FCIs plus I/O modules connected directly to the FCI.
G3 compliant: The module withstand more severe environmental conditions according to ISA-S71.04.
HART: Highway Addressable Remote Terminal is a digital communication protocol developed for applications in industrial process metrology.
I/O cluster: An extension of the I/O Station’s ModuleBus connected to the FCI by fiber optic connections. Up to 12 I/O devices per cluster.
I/O device: A complete I/O device consists of one MTU and one I/O module.
I/O module: Is an active, electronic and signal conditioning unit. Can be a part of an I/O device or a S800L I/O module.
ABB Electrification’s Mission to Zero: one year on
On the 8th May 2019, ABB unveiled its Mission to Zero, a carbon neutral and energy self-sufficient blueprint for industry, homes and cities.
One year on, I look back at how our first carbon neutral production site in the world, our flagship Busch-Jaeger subsidiary in Luedenscheid, Germany, has inspired others to cut CO₂ emissions by using less energy and cleaner energy.
Model for success
I was immensely proud to take part in the launch last year. At our Busch-Jaeger site we have proven how energy can be used more efficiently and sustainably through digital energy management.Measuring 7,300 square meters and installed over the car parks on the company premises, the solar power plant has delivered around 1,190 MWh of climate-neutral solar power in the first year. This is approximately the annual requirement of 360 private households. On sunny days it powers 100% of the factory’s power requirements and has reduced annual CO₂ emissions by 681 tons.
We aimed for, and succeeded, in developing a solution that was scalable and flexible so it could be applied in all areas – from smart homes and smart buildings, to smart transportation and smart cities and industry.
