Blast furnace ironmaking is the use of iron-containing raw materials (sinter, pellet or iron ore), fuel (coke, coal powder, etc.) and other auxiliary materials (limestone, dolomite, manganese ore, etc.)The blast furnace is charged into a certain proportion, and hot air is blown into the blast furnace to help the coke burn, and the raw materials and fuel are lowered as the smelting process in the furnace progresses.

The process is simple, the production volume is large, the labor productivity is high, and the energy consumption is low. The iron produced by this method still accounts for more than 95% of the total iron production in the world. In the blast furnace production, iron ore, coke, slag flux (limestone) is loaded from the top of the furnace, and preheated air is blown from the tuyere at the lower part of the furnace along the circumference of the furnace. At high temperatures, carbon in coke (some blast furnaces also spray auxiliary fuel such as pulverized coal, heavy oil, natural gas, etc.) and carbon monoxide and hydrogen produced by combustion of oxygen in the air. The oxygen in the iron ore is removed during the ascent in the furnace, thereby reducing the iron. The molten iron is discharged from the iron mouth.
The impurities that are not reduced in the iron ore are combined with a flux such as limestone to form slag, which is discharged from the slag port. The generated gas is exported from the top of the furnace. After dedusting, it is used as fuel for hot blast stoves, heating furnaces, coke ovens, boilers, etc.
