Product Description
190501-12-00-00 Bently Nevada Velomitor CT Velocity Transducer

Description

The Bently Nevada190501-12-00-00 is a piezoelectric velocity sensor, marketed under the “Velomitor CT” family. It is explicitly designed as a low-frequency version of Bently’s

standard Velomitor velocity sensor, so that it can effectively measure vibration on slower-speed machinery (for example cooling towers,

air-cooled heat-exchanger fans)operating at around 90 rpm and upward. The typical use case: measuring

casing vibration velocity of fan assemblies, cooling tower fans, heat-exchanger fans, etc.

FAQ

Q1: What is the difference between the Velomitor CT and the standard Velomitor?
A1: The Velomitor CT is optimized for lower frequency vibration measuring (i.e., slow-speed fans/running at ~90 rpm and above) by shifting the frequency response downwards, compared with the standard Velomitor sensor which may target higher-speed equipment.

Q2: Can it be used on very slow rotating machines (e.g., <90 rpm)?
A2: The specification states it is designed for machines operating at or above 90 rpm (100 rpm to ~300 rpm typical). If you have slower machines, you’d need to verify the vibration frequency content is still within the sensor’s frequency response (down to ~1.5 Hz in extended spec) and that the machine casing transmits sufficient vibration.

Q3: How important is the mounting location and method?
A3: Very important. The datasheet emphasizes that for casing measurement to be effective, the transducer must be mounted in a location where rotor vibration is transmitted to the casing. Improper mounting may reduce amplitude/frequency response or produce misleading signals.Best practice: on bearing housing or machine casing, solid mount, correct stud torque.

Q4: What cable length limitations exist?
A4: Up to 305 m (1,000 ft) of cable is listed in the datasheet without degradation of signal.  For very long runs or high-capacitance cables, one may need to take extra care (shielding, connector quality, etc.).
