The Honeywell 10100/2/1 CC10900 Horizontal Bus Driver (HBD) is a module used in Honeywell’s automation or distributed-control systems (DCS)
I/O architecture.It is described as a “Horizontal Bus Driver” module — i.e., a card/module that interfaces the vertical
backplane to the horizontal bus in an I/O rack.It consists of two parts — the electronic part (10100/2/1) and a
flat cable (such as A1, A21 or A22) that connects to the horizontal bus
above the I/O rack.

Q1: What is the function of the 10100/2/1 Horizontal Bus Driver module?
A: Its function is to interface the vertical bus to the horizontal bus in a Honeywell I/O rack. It takes power and/or signal from the vertical bus
(via connector CN1) and drives a flat-cable horizontal bus (via front flat cable and connector CN3) that routes to I/O
modules across the rack. It also terminates the address-selection line of I/O
modules via the horizontal bus.
Q2: What power/voltage does it require?
A: It requires 5 V DC (very low current) on the flat-cable interface:
With flat cable A1 or A21: 5 V DC, 35 mA.
With flat cable A22: 5 V DC, 65 mA.
Q3: Can this module be installed/replaced while the system is powered (hot-swap)?
A: One source states: “10100/2/1 modules can be replaced with power on, but if the HBD is safety-related, the
central part will be shut down when replaced.” So yes, but with caution — especially
if used in a safety-critical part of the system.
Q4: What flat-cable versions are used and what's the difference?
A: The module supports different flat cables depending on the I/O configuration:
A1 cable: for non-redundant I/O.
A21 cable: for redundant I/O.
