Description

The Bently Nevada 330903-00-05-10-02-00‑series type proximity probe is a non‑contact eddy‑current proximity sensor used for machinery vibration and shaft displacement monitoring in industrial rotating

equipment (turbines, compressors, pumps, etc.). Probes in the 330903‑… family are part of Bently Nevada’s 3300 XL NSv Proximity Transducer System,

 which provides highly accurate positional and vibration signals to condition‑monitoring and protection systems.A 3300 XL proximity probe senses the

distance between a rotating target (shaft/rotor) and the probe tip using eddy‑current technology. As the target moves closer or farther, the

electrical signal changes, allowing the connected Proximitor sensor to convert this into a

 displacement/vibration signal suitable for monitoring or protection systems.

Q1. What is this sensor used for?
A: It’s a non‑contact displacement/vibration sensor that provides accurate radial position and vibration data of rotating shafts to a monitoring/protection system. It is not a simple proximity switch; it produces an analog signal proportional to gap changes.



Q2. What does “eddy‑current” mean?
A: Eddy‑current probes induce currents in the conductive target (shaft). Variations in the gap alter the induced current and therefore the output voltage — which is interpreted by a Proximitor sensor for displacement/vibration measurement.



Q3. Do I install this directly into the machine housing?
A: Yes — proximity probes are installed close to the shaft with a prescribed air gap (often around 1 mm). Mounting hardware/holders are typically used to maintain alignment and gap. Probes must be wired using the correct extension cable to a Proximitor sensor in a control panel.
