The ABB NBRA-657C (Part No. 59006410) is a braking chopper module designed to work with industrial variable-frequency drives — especially ABB’s ACS600/ACS800 series — to manage and
dissipate excess energy generated during motor deceleration or braking.When a motor slows down, it converts kinetic energy back into electrical energy. If this regenerative
energy is not properly managed, it can raise the DC link voltage within a drive, risking overvoltage faults or damage. The NBRA-657C prevents such
issues by rapidly switching in a braking resistor to safely dissipate this energy as heat.
