The 1785-L40C15 PLC-5/40C is an AB Controller with the ControlNet Network, a 4,000-word SRAM controller and a ControlNet network port located on the left-most slot of the 1771 I/O Chassis which draws a 3.3A backplane current, and it is used in an industrial automated process for controlling the outputs/inputs of connected field devices. It has 2048 (any mix) or 2048 in + 2048 out (complimentary) maximum I/O capacity, with a maximum I/O Rack capacity of 15 I/O, and the maximum number of remote I/O devices that can be connected at a time is 60 I/O. It has 2ms per K word (Typical), and 0.5ms per K word in bit logic program scan time, respectively, and it is designed with a single Co-Processor port. It draws a backplane current of 3.3A from the I/O chassis, at 5V DC, and it will dissipate 59 BTU/hour when operational, and it is keyed in placed through connection to pins 40 and 42, and 54 and 56. The 1785-L40C15 has 3 Hardware Addressing modes, and it supports a ControlNet Hot Backup Cartridge, for use in System Hot-Backup. The controller is also compatible, with the AB 1771, 1794, 1746, and the 1791 8-points, 16-points, 32-points, and intelligent I/O modules and the processor’s SRAM memory is backed up with the 1785-RC Relay Cartridge Battery.

The 1785-L40C15 comes with an 8-pin mini-DIN connector on the front panel, and it has an RS-232-C/422-A/423- A Serial Communication Port with data transmission rates between 57.6K bit/s and 230.4K bit/s, and at a selectable Port Scan time between 10ms per rack at 57.6K bit/s and 3ms per rack at 230K bit/s and it has 2 parallel 3-pin Default ports that are configurable for DH+ or Remote I/O (Adapter or Scanner). It has 59 BTU/hour of maximum thermal dissipation, and it has an operational temperature between 32 and 140 oF, at a relative humidity range of 5-95%, without condensation, and it is IEC-tested to resist a 30G operational shock, with about 1G operational vibration at 10-500Hz.
