The 1797-ACNR15 is a redundant-media adapter module for the FLEX Ex I/O system from Allen‑Bradley / Rockwell Automation.
It provides an interface between a FLEX Ex I/O rack (up to 8 modules, e.g., digital/analog I/O) and a
dual-channel (redundant) ControlNet® network (coaxial or other approved
media) in hazardous or intrinsically-safe (Ex) environments.

Q1: What is the difference between 1797-ACNR15 and 1794-ACNR15?
A1: The 1797-ACNR15 is part of the FLEX Ex I/O system designed for hazardous and intrinsically-safe locations (Zone/Division rated). The 1794-ACNR15 is
the standard FLEX I/O version for non-hazardous locations. Many specifications overlap, but the hazard-rating, approvals,
and environment rating differ. (E.g., 1794 series is
already marked as EOL).
Q2: How many I/O modules can I connect behind the adapter?
A2: Up to 8 I/O modules (digital/analog/specialty) in the rack behind this adapter, supporting up to ~128 I/O points (depending on module types).
Q3: What network media does it support?
A3: It supports the coaxial ControlNet trunk (Channel A & B) for redundant paths. In the Ex-version you must ensure media and field wiring
meet the required hazardous-location and
intrinsic-safety standards.
Q4: Can I remove or replace this module while the system is powered?
A4: It is strongly recommended to remove power or ensure non-hazardous environment before inserting/removing module or
connecting/disconnecting network cables in hazardous locations, because of risk of arcing.
To avoid hazards, follow guidelines in the
installation manual.
